Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) has appointed Dr. Russell Hales as Chief of its Centers of Excellence, a strategic move aimed at advancing an integrated model for specialty care across the Kingdom in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030’s healthcare transformation.
Dr. Hales, a distinguished radiation oncologist and professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, brings extensive expertise and experience to the role, alongside the globally recognized standards and evidence-based protocols of Johns Hopkins Medicine. His leadership is set to strengthen JHAH’s mission to embed international best practices in Saudi Arabia, enhance the quality of care, and provide patients with access to world-class healthcare closer to home.
“The Centers of Excellence are more than specialist clinics. They represent a unified model that streamlines the patient journey and improves outcomes,” said Dr. Hales. “By combining Johns Hopkins Medicine’s protocols with local insights, we are building teams and pathways that deliver the right care, at the right time, close to home. This program also serves as a platform for continuous education, keeping JHAH teams aligned with the latest global developments while sharing knowledge across the Kingdom.”
The Centers of Excellence model integrates advanced clinical expertise and innovation within a coordinated system, ensuring the highest standards of care throughout the patient journey. The first center, the Oncology Center of Excellence, is transforming cancer care by focusing on breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers—among the most prevalent in Saudi Arabia. Multidisciplinary teams provide precise, compassionate, and comprehensive care, guiding patients from screening and diagnosis through treatment, survivorship, and long-term management.

Building on the success of the Oncology Center, JHAH plans to expand the Centers of Excellence model to additional specialties. From October 27-30, JHAH will showcase its integrated oncology model at the Global Health Exhibition 2025 in Riyadh, demonstrating how this approach is already setting new standards for patient-centered care across the Kingdom.
