Egg Freezing techniques becoming increasingly popular in the UAE

In observance of International Women’s Day, Fakih IVF Fertility Center is rolling out a special campaign supporting all women and their choices. The campaign is running throughout March, across the center’s branches located in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Al Ain.

With majority of women considering delaying pregnancy or choosing to embrace motherhood later in their lives, the various methods of fertility preservation available today give them the opportunity to take control of their biological clock. To help these women make more informed decisions, Fakih IVF is offering fertility consultations and discounts on their egg freezing package this month.

One such method is the ‘Oocyte Cryopreservation,’ an egg freezing procedure, where women may choose to have their eggs thawed, fertilized and transferred to the uterus helping achieve pregnancy in the future.

Dr. Nahla Kazim, Specialist Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility – Obstetrics and Gynecologist at Fakih IVF and with over 20 years of experience in the field believe that with the rapidly advancing science of assisted reproductive technology, it is becoming easier to prolong conception or delay parenthood. Such technologies are also emerging as a solution to several short-term and long-term complications driven by diseases, cancers, genetic syndrome and the ageing process.

“While embryo freezing is usually the preferred choice of fertility preservation amongst married women in UAE, oocyte cryopreservation is becoming increasingly common among unmarried women for medical and social reasons,” Dr. Kazim said.

The procedure requires the use of hormones for ovarian stimulation, egg collection and use of assisted reproduction techniques that may typically take up to three weeks.  Successful preservation depends on a woman’s age and a number of frozen eggs depending on her ovarian reserve, which can be checked by a blood test.

Dr. Nahla adds, “Egg freezing gives women greater flexibility on when to use their frozen eggs for future motherhood, thus, beautifully blending the biological and chronological sequences in their lives.”

Fakih IVF has been pioneering the cryopreservation techniques and is amongst the first centers in the UAE to adopt this technique. Thousands of children continue to be born with live birth rates comparable with the international benchmark.
