Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has carried out the region’s first procedure using the Artisse Intrasaccular Flow Modulator, an innovative implant designed to treat wide-necked brain aneurysms.
The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has designated the hospital as a Centre of Excellence for stroke, making it the first in the Middle East and North Africa to implement this technology
The minimally invasive procedure uses a catheter threaded through a blood vessel to place a mesh device that seals the aneurysm, lowering the risk of rupture and stroke.
The hospital’s first patient treated with the device achieved successful aneurysm closure within three months, highlighting the technology’s promise for safer and more effective results.

Fayeza Al Yafie, Executive Director of Healthcare Quality at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, stated that the milestone underscores the emirate’s dedication to innovation and advanced patient care. Khalil Zahra, Staff Physician in Neurosurgery at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, noted that the new approach improves treatment for complex aneurysms while minimizing the need for invasive surgery.
Since introducing the UAE’s first multi-organ transplant programme in 2017, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has emerged as a premier referral centre for advanced medical care. The integration of this device further reinforces its position as a regional hub for neurological innovation.
