Alma Health set to transform the healthcare industry in the GCC

More than any other industry, healthcare has been transformed immensely by the pandemic, resulting in innovative solutions for standard healthcare practices. In mid-2020, Khaldoon Bushnaq and Tariq Seksek founded Alma Health, a digital health company dedicated to transforming the typical healthcare experience for people with chronic conditions, providing them with a fully digital experience, from a virtual doctor consultation at the tap of a button, to prescription delivery and ongoing care. The Abu Dhabi startup recognized a gap in chronic condition management and aimed to provide solutions to help transform the lives of individuals with chronic conditions. Alma Health is fully licensed by the Emirate’s Department of Health and is accredited by major health insurance networks.

With extensive experience in the tech industry, Alma Health’s founders Khaldoon Bushnaq, former Head of Strategy for Careem, and Tariq Seksek, former Head of Product for Dubizzle, built a user-centric healthcare company to cater to the estimated 20 million GCC residents that have at least one form of a chronic condition. The Middle East is one of the most impacted regions by chronic conditions, with rates of diabetes, heart disease, obesity, asthma and other diseases drastically increasing year on year.

“Our mission at Alma Health is to create a world where a person’s chronic condition doesn’t complicate their life. We believe that managing your health should be as easy as a tap of a few buttons and that’s what we have created with Alma Health. We are seeing a consistent monthly growth of at least 40% in users since our launch last year, and we look forward to expanding our services across the UAE and Saudi Arabia in very soon.”, comments co-founder of Alma Health, Khaldoon Bushnaq.

The user’s healthcare specialists, insurance providers and Alma Health’s physicians and pharmacists are all connected via the Alma Health Operating System, to ensure every user’s experience is as seamless as possible. The team at Alma Health manage all the hard work to fulfil the needs of users, for example billing the insurance provider, preparing the various medications and delivering them straight to the user’s door within 24 hours.

Co-founder of Alma Health, Tariq Seksek, says, “With Diabetes and Hypertension being the two main conditions people live with from across the UAE, our team of licensed professionals can cater to healthcare needs from the comfort of the users’homes through the ease of our application. Our goal at Alma Health is to limit the time users spend managing their condition to an absolute minimum and not let the condition rule or complicate their lives.”

Alongside its diverse selection of licensed doctors, Alma Health is accredited by a number of reputable insurance providers in the region such as Thiqa, Daman, NAS Neuron and Oman Insurance.

Since its launch in mid 2020, Alma Health has received funding from Hambro Perks – the Oryx Fund, a global venture fund backing early-stage companies with a particular focus on healthtech. Other distinguished investors include the Oman Technology Fund – Wadi, an Omani sovereign wealth fund, as well as strategic angel investors from Saudi and the UAE.

Alma Health is revolutionizing the healthcare industry in the region, and the significant increase in users is resulting in its expansion to Saudi Arabia in the coming months, with the help of its investors.
